Doug was a great friend. He was an inspiration both as what to do and what not to do. Through Doug I met Marilyn. Marilyn and I will celebrate 41 years of marriage this year and 31 years of raising two sons. Without Doug, no Marilyn, no Matt, no David.

In 1980 Marilyn let me travel to Europe with Doug. Marilyn and I had traveled to Europe a lot and I was always telling Doug about the trips. He suggested we travel there together. I made the mistake of making Cannes, France one of the first stops. The topless beach was a distraction and so for the next three weeks I had to listen to "after this walled city and watch tower, can we go back to Cannes?"

Doug and I drifted apart after our two boys were born. He didn't seem interested in kids. I thought we would take a time-out and get back together in later years. After he died, I was talking to his girl friend who informed me that Doug was depressed over never having children and would like to have adopted one or two.

RIP, brother
