Theron R. Lawrence

Theron "Ted" Lawrence

Ted Lawrence passed away on March 10, 2015, after a short battle with cancer. He is survived by his two brothers Mike and Tony and numerous nieces and nephews. Gentle, carefree, and fragile are words that would describe Ted. He grew up with an extended family at the Detroit Yacht Club and spent most of his time sailing and iceboating. He was drafted into the Army around the age of 21 and unfortunately could not cope with violence and war. While in boot camp, something snapped and Ted became challenged. From that time on and until his passing he resided in assisted living facilities. He remained a caring brother and faithful friend throughout his life and enjoyed communicating via Internet. He took many trips to Florida to be with brother Mike and his family. He will be missed by those that knew him.

Teddy and I dominated Junior sailing in Detroit for two years He did it because he enjoyed it I did it for the competition It made a good match the carefree part of him came afterwards at the club.I saw a picture of.him in a crew photo when he won the Mackinac Race. One year we decided to stay on the island afterwards for the rest of the summer.there wasn't a mean bone in his body and boy did he have a way with the girls. If circumstances had been different he would have had a wonderful productive life. Everyone loved Teddy.

My memory of Ted is of course the DYC and also learning how to smoke cigarettes with Pat McCormick and Andy Butterfield......behind the many garages on Trombley and Westchester.  Oh those were the days...After

highschool we went our seperate ways - so sorry to hear his life after HS wasn't a healthy one.

Very sadly it was lung cancer that took him. He never stopped smoking. He suffered for thankfully only one month. Anyone who knows anyone who smokes please please do what you can to encourage them to stop.
