Don was a renaisance man. He was the son of Horse Race Track owner and ran with a crowd including many avid golfers. He had an unusal ability to play golf while enjoying adult beverges. While attending U of M law school Don shuned classes for more interesting venues. His nickname was "Spanky" to his close friends. He lived the big life but not very long. His good friends included our classmate Ron Linclau , Mike Grow, Ray Biggs , Dwight Leonard and the golfing crowd at the Country Club and Lochmoor.
The odds were always favorable that there would never be a dull moment hanging with the MacFarlane and Grow clads. Open door hospitality policy. All groupies welcome. Many of our most memorable moments during ‘60/70’s. Holiday parties (famous Grow Christmas eggnog punch); Sunday football games and grilled steaks; and, the track’s Director’s Room during horse racing season. Pool parties at Mac’s; and, the halfway house at the DCC. And of course, the DKE house madness in Ann Arbor. Camaraderie, friendship and fun, fun, fun. “Spanky” passed too soon!!
