Doug passed on April 18, 2016 after battling cancer for about a year. He loved staying in touch with his HS Class and would want me to advise of his passing. If I can provide more detail, I would be happy to do so. Aloha, Mrs. Janet Williams

Doug and I were close friends in Junior High and High School. We lived close to each other and had Detroit News Paper routes near each other. Often we would ride our bikes together, especially on Sunday mornings to the paper station at Roslyn and Mack (about 6:30 a.m.) to get our papers. We double dated often. Doug had the use of a friend's 1955 red and white Chevy. We played basketball together on the Grosse Pointe Baptist Church team in the Detroit YMCA league, and Doug was Best Man when Glenda and I married in 1964. We stayed in touch intermittently over the years. We will miss him.

So very sorry to hear about our classmate, Doug. My sincere sympathy to Janet and Kevin in their loss. I remember that red and white Chevy and the double dates as well! A few years ago I had an email from Doug wanting to know if I remembered all those great times and we exchanged many reacquainting emails after that. I am so happy he reached out when he did. A very special person.

My sympathies to Doug's wife and son for their loss. I also remember playing church YMCA league basketball with Doug and Woody . . . . . . fun times . . . . remember Doug's giggle . . .

Doug, or Duke as we called him then, was a great friend. He and I rode our bikes to school most mornings from 2nd grede at Vernier school through 9th grade at Parcells. We had many a football game in his back yard and a few games of "hot seat" with tennis balls off the garage roof. We drifted apart after high school but I remember well his sense of humor and love of life. RIP Duke.
