BARBARA MULHOLLAND Obituary

Barbara Linden Mulholland passed away June 17, 2016, at home. She was born Feb. 12, 1942, to Rene Linden and Mildred Cacavo. Barbara was proud to share her birthdate with President Lincoln, which inspired her nickname, "the Baberaham." She and her four siblings grew up in the Detroit suburb of Grosse Pointe, Mich. Barbara attended high school and college in Michigan and, in 1965, moved to New York City to pursue a career in advertising. She quickly learned to be a New Yorker, by taking a cab to the hospital for Megan's birth because her husband, Tim, was at work. With her infectious laugh, engaging smile and warm personality, it should surprise no one that she made friends everywhere she went. After all, she never met a stranger. The family moved to Wilton, Conn. in 1970. There, Barbara gave birth to Heather and Patrick and enjoyed her favorite home "with a small red barn in back." In 1977, they moved to Las Vegas. Following a divorce, Barbara worked at Saks Fifth Avenue, in the casino business at the Tropicana Hotel and for the Las Vegas Pro-Am Golf Tournament (as it was called then). With equally rooted persistence and value of education, she put her three children through Bishop Gorman High School. In 1983, Citibank opened a credit card processing operation in Las Vegas and Barbara was the fifth employee hired in an operation that would eventually employ thousands. At that time, the bank was the second largest private sector employer in Nevada. Barbara became the senior vice president for Community Affairs, or as she liked to put it "I give away the bank's money." However, she did so much more than her simplified description. Under Barbara's leadership, Citibank's philanthropy supported many diverse organizations including Communities in Schools, Nevada Ballet, Three Square, After-School All Stars and many others. The organizations did not just get financial assistancethey got Barbara. With her tireless dedication, came training and expertise focused on transparency, efficiency and accountability. By educating non-profit organizations, she revolutionized philanthropy in Las Vegas. She retired in 2014, but her impact on the community and charitable giving continues today. Following her retirement, she briefly indulged her passion for drawing by taking classes at UNLV. However, it didn't take long for her life's work of helping others to take center stage again. Barbara became a volunteer at WestCare Foundation's Women and Children's Campus, where programs and services across the continuum of health and human services are offered to improve the lives of vulnerable women and children. With Barbara's help, they recently celebrated the largest grant the facility has ever received, and as a result more women and children's lives will be touched, changed and saved. Barbara, the beloved sister, mother, grandmother and partner is survived by her sister, Joan Linden Gibson; brothers, Robert Linden, David Linden and Richard Linden; daughters, Megan Wilkes and Heather Mulholland Kenney; son, Patrick Mulholland; son-in-law, Paul Wilkes; granddaughter, Katie Wilkes; grandson, Ryan Wilkes; granddaughters, Charlotte Wilkes, Piper Kenney and Brooke Kenney; and significant other, of 26 years, Stanley Hunterton. There will be a celebration of Barbara's life at 10 a.m. Friday, June 24, at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89123. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be sent to WestCare's Women and Children's Campus, 5659 Duncan Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89130, (702) 385-2020. Barbara would say, "The women and children need help more than I need flowers."

Barb was a dear friend to many. I just exchanged emails with her in the last year or so. Wow what a surprise she had an engaging personalty and great smile for everyone. Hits close to home.

I had two great Barbs in my life. Barb Linden and Barb Thorpe Jay.

This part of getting old I hate.

Barbara represented the very best of the Class of 1960.  She was intelligent, articulate, kind, and caring.  Barbara's great joy in life was her children and grandchildren that she dearly loved.  She was a successful business executive for many years with a number of large companies, including VISA.

Those of us who first knew her at Pierce Jr. High recall her infectious smile and great sense of humor.

Now Barbara has flown west into the sunset.  Already missed by her many friends, she is gone but not forgotten.

All comments are truely correct.  Barb will always  be kept in the hearts she touched.  Which are all of us in the Class of 60.  Lest we never forget until we all meet again.  Phil Keim

It was with immense sadness I heard of the passing of Barb Linden. What impressive accomplishments, personal and professional, she achieved throughout her active life.

Hamilton and I were also born on February 12, 1942 but we were always prouder that we shared a birthday with Barb than with Lincoln.

Barb was a lovely person, inside and out...with a most friendly smile....  In line with her cheerleading days, "Everyone for Barbara, stand up and cheer!".....which many have already done.
