Trying to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up. At 75, having survived a stage IV battle with Melanoma, and 52 years of marriage, things have pretty much fallen into place. I like helping people, which fits with business insurance. I hire out as the insurance advisor for the management teams of small and medium-sized companies. I also mentor a group of christian men with whom I meet weekly.
Graduated from the University of Virginia in 1964, with a BA in English. Varsity letter in swimming; played Lacrosse. Commissioned in the Army as 2 Lt. of Infantry.
The business life began with a two-year stint in the Army after ROTC in college. This included a tour in Korea as a platoon leader and one at Ft. Myers in Arlington as a security officer. Spent 7 years in the reserves; Special Forces, Army Intelligence and Training Command; Left as a Captain to pursue a more spiritual calling, working with Marriage Encounter.
Worked in the insurance industry since 1966, and am now with a local agency, as a Risk Advisor and Non-Profit insurance specialist. Also have served for past 7 years on the Board of the Adult Day Center of Somerset County, caring for the frail elderly with early to mid-stage dementia and alzheimers, where Nelie's mom was for four years. Just finished term as Board Chair, so keeping busy.

Having Karen Kuivinen move in next door to me when I lived in Rochester, NY. We were very close to the sellers and sad when they left. Eventually, I noticed this familiar face going in and out, and recognized her. Too bad we didn't keep in touch.

My sister and I inherited a family cottage in the town of Brookfield, Vt. It was built by my mother's great uncle in about 1880. My sister, Connie and her husband have a B & B in the town, and have been caretakers of the cottage. We're having a memorial service there August 1st for Mom, who passed away last October. We'll be putting a carved marble bench in her garden, along with planting a red maple in her memory.
